Barrick recently donated 345 sheep to 69 families in the small village of Santos Genoveva in Peru’s La Libertad region.
The sheep will be an economic boon to the families, providing them with highly sought-after wool and wool products to sell in local markets. Each family received four ewes and one ram.
The donation is part of the company’s commitment to foster sustainable economic development in its host communities in Peru. Barrick contributed $127,000 for the livestock.
“I need this livestock to increase my income and raise my seven children,” says Angél Rodriguez Garcia, one of Santos Genoveva’s locals. “All of the families count on their own parcels of land to be able to raise livestock and we are very thankful for this donation.”
